The state- of- the- art Cardiology department is manned by a competent team of skilled professionals and offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
A. Non-invasive diagnostic facilities that are available include ECG, treadmill exercise testing, Holter monitoring (home based 24-hour cardiac monitoring), Echocardiography, including transesophageal echocardiography and dobutamine stress echocardiography.
A wide range of invasive cardiology services are available. These include:
1. Coronary angiography and angioplasty: This includes Coronary Angiography, Coronary angioplasty and stenting using drug-eluting (medicated) stents, primary angioplasty, chronic total occlusion recanalization, treatment of in-stent restenosis, graft angioplasty, left main angioplasty and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) supported angioplasty,. peripheral vascular interventions. This includes subclavian artery, aortic renal artery and femoral artery angioplasty and stenting, interventions in non specific (Takayasu's arteritis), endovascular treatment of aneurysms, venous interventional Chiari syndrome and superior vena cava syndrome, embolotherapy and venacaval filter insertion.
Valvuloplasty of mitral, aortic, pulmonary and tricuspid valves for rheumatic and non-rheumatic etiologies.
3. Implantation of pacemakers (single chamber, dual chambers and triple chamber) and cardioverter defibrillators, Pacemaker and defibrillator programming and follow up.
4. Non-surgical treatment of congenital cardiac disease: This includes device closure of right shunts (patent ductus arteriosus, atrial septal defect, Balloon dilatation of congenital aortic and pulmonary valve stenosis, and stenting of congenital coarctation of aorta.
C. Inpatient services include round-the-clock critical care facilities in a fully equipped coronary care unit, emergency management of acute coronary syndromes - acute myocardial infarction/unstable angina using state-of-the-art monitoring, pharmacotherapy and angioplasty/thrombolysis, management of heart failure, management of arrhythmias, heart blocks, temporary pacemaker therapy, intra-aortic balloon pump insertion etc.
D. Preventive cardiology services offered include risk factor detection and modification of atherosclerotic vascular disease, cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes control counselling, and life-style change counselling.
Plans are on for Invasive electrophysiology and radiofrequency ablation therapy for cardiac arrhythmias to be started soon in the hospital.
